Lakewood Golf Club is one of the South's premier golf destinations. Opened in 1961, the course has hosted the New Orleans Open 26 times over the years. Beautiful cypress and oak trees frame the golf course, providing a beautiful backdrop throughout the round. When Ron Garl renovated the course in 2009 he managed to obtain its original character while modernizing the layout with new fairways, tee boxes, and greens. Strategically placed bunkers and fairway contouring were also added. Lakewood Golf Club is owned by the New Orleans Firefighters Pension Fund and as a tribute to New Orleans Firefighters, the final hole was redesigned and renamed "Fire in the Hole." Called so because the traps are arranged in a set of flames against a backdrop of red sand. You won't find anything like the bunkering on this par 4.

Fun Course - Great Staff!

I played this course twice and found it to be a great time. I played it from the member tees the first time and wasn't really challenged so I played it from the tips (I normally do not play the tips anywhere) and found it to be a little more fun.

The staff was extremely welcoming and the course was wide open so other than hearing "Fore!" a few times a good time was had by all because you can really let loose with your drives and not worry about where it lands.

Good Condition = Low Scores

For early spring the course was in great condition. Everyone shot below their handicaps with the Pink Pony leading the pack with a blistering 76 and crushing the hopes of Little Jimmy to beat the master.

Would play again.

Greens were top dressed so they still had to much sand on them. Staff was excellent, the course is pretty open due to Katrina taking out some of the trees. It can be played easy or challenging depending on your choice of tees. The wind came into play so it made up for a dormant rough. Overall it was a really nice course to play and I would play it again.

Nice driving range with free balls.

The greens were rolling perfectly. Bunkers were in great shape. Fairway were tight but still had enough grass to hit quality shots.

The course has great sites!

Greens were airated that made putting difficult! Other than that this course is a great course for the money! I'd play this course everyday if I could!
