Lakewood Golf Club
About
Lakewood Golf Club is one of the South's premier golf destinations. Opened in 1961, the course has hosted the New Orleans Open 26 times over the years. Beautiful cypress and oak trees frame the golf course, providing a beautiful backdrop throughout the round. When Ron Garl renovated the course in 2009 he managed to obtain its original character while modernizing the layout with new fairways, tee boxes, and greens. Strategically placed bunkers and fairway contouring were also added. Lakewood Golf Club is owned by the New Orleans Firefighters Pension Fund and as a tribute to New Orleans Firefighters, the final hole was redesigned and renamed "Fire in the Hole." Called so because the traps are arranged in a set of flames against a backdrop of red sand. You won't find anything like the bunkering on this par 4.

Looking forward to playing again in better weather
Despite the cold, soggy weather on the day we played, I enjoyed the round. Looking forward to next time on a warmer day and knowing the course better. Lost several balls to water on shots I thought weren't that bad, but not knowing the course hurt me. Staff was super friendly. Expected much better facilities for $100 but the course was well cared for. Has some holes tightly packed together so watch out for errant shots. Some pin locations were really tough, very close to edges.
It's Lakewood!
Always in terrific shape, pro shop nice, as was starter. Go out and enjoy!
HAD A GREAT ROUND!!
THIS IS A SOMEWAHAT CHALLANGING COARSE AND THE GREENS WERE VERY FAST AND SMOOTH. BALL PLACEMENT ON THE GREEN WAS A MUST AS THE DOWN HILLERS WERE VERY QUICK.. RECOMMEND THIS COARSETO ANYONE A GREAT VALUE!
Once Upon A Golf Course....
We came from out of town to play New Orleans courses. This was the first course we played (TPC Louisana/English Turn), and a good starter.
Pros: Fast Greens & Pace of Play. The greens were really fast, and that was the best part of the course. Not sure where the "kitchen" was, but the food was tasty as well.
Cons: No hole definition, from the first tee it was hard to distinguish the layout. No clubhouse. No watering grass.
A course that at one time was played by the best golfers in the world is broke, and that's a shame. We paid around $50 per round, and that is about as much as would seem fair.
Nice course, in great shape - especially the greens.
Great value for a quality course. The greens were in great shape .. Very fast but the ball rolled true.
had a scramble tournament going on
Course is great but did not like the fact that they had a scramble tournament going on and I was hurried and had to stop to let others play. They need to not sell tee times during a tournament or do half price tee times.
Great greens
The greens were superb for this time of year. The fairways were a little thin but overall the course was in very good condition.some long par fours!
This course is great
I've already started looking for another tee time here.
fine course
The course is in great shape. Greens are also in good shape. Overall a good golfing experience. Very fair course. Not too easy & not too hard. Has som easy holes & some really long ones. I'm about an 8 handicap & would play this course on a regular basis if I lived around here. However, $8.00 for a bucket of balls to warm up (40 balls) was quite expensive in my opinion.
Solid Course
The greens were lush and rolling true, the Fairways were very well maintained, and the Tee boxes were flat and well groomed as well. Only thing I disliked was that there is hardly any shade on the course, and I like more trees separating the holes. But those are minor things to dislike, Overall the is one of the top 3 public courses in the area, definitely will play there again and would recommend it to others.
Regular day at Lakewood
As expected the course wonderful. Some of the best fairways around. The greens are fast, but consistent. Overall great experience.
Great course!
The greens were recently rolled so they're a bit on the sandy side. Besides that, this course is awesome!
Great Course in NOLA
The course is great. The fairways are always green and it is wide open. They just got done punching the greens 7/15/2015, but before they did, the greens were in excellent condition. Compared to any other course in NOLA, this is like Augusta. I am an avid golfer and this place for the rates that I was paying is the best deal in the city.
Value for the buck
Very nice and challenging course. I don't think that I would play this course for the normal price. If it weren't for golf now. Com don't believe i would have played. Plenty of room on the fair ways and very scenic. Greens have just been aerated "very bumppy" count on two putting every hole.
Lakewood Suana
I don't have any complaints about the course. The area and course had just had 3 or 4 inches of rain over the two days prior to playing so the fairways were soggy in many areas but no standing water. With temperatures in the mid 90s it made for sauna like conditions. The greens were very quick and in excellent condition. It was well worth the $40 I paid to play.
Play a previous NO Open course
Since the redesign the course is in excellent conditions. The fairways, traps, and other areas are in great shape. The greens roll true to the 'read' and while quick are not ridiculous. Due to lightening and rain moving in we were only able to complete 14 holes during our visit to NO. I would recommend this course to anyone looking for a course in ideal condition that rewards good shots and penalizes less than stellar shots.
Course has a nice layout
Most holes were fairly straight away however they did tend to try and throw a few fairway bunkers or water to tighten the fairways a bit. Greens were dry, but very consistent from hole to hole and well maintained. Also they have some of the most interesting features you will ever see from their designed bunkers to the crafted woodwork which was made from old cypress stumps. Overall a great experience for a first timer to the New Orleans area.
Beautiful course
Too many holes run parallel with each other, far too many balls coming your way from other tee boxes. Almost got hit twice.
