Championship at Moon Valley Country Club
About
Moon Valley Country Club's Championship course features excellent conditions and a spot in Arizona's long golf tradition on a par-72 18-hole course first designed by Dick Wilson and redesigned by Bob Cupp and Associates. This golf course challenges all levels, playing 5,285-7,216 yards.
Moon Valley Country Club's Championship course begins on a par-4 371-yarder, requiring a drive left to see the green: bunkers guard front and left. The fourth is a par-5 511-yarder. Shoot a birdie. Keep the tee shot away from the right fairway bunker. Close on the 411-yard, par-4 18th, which requires an accurate drive to miss bunkers right and trees and water left. You'll face the course's most intimidating shot: a two-tiered green, featuring a left side four feet higher than the right, 15 yards deep. It's guarded front back by bunkers. The hole location on the right is difficult.
Bunkers block a green sloping front to back, making it tough to stop the ball on the surface.

Excellent Summer Value with Great Facilities
This course was an excellent value for the money, the facilities were great, including a fairly new clubhouse and restaurant area and casita restrooms throughout the course which provided ice and water. The course conditions were great, with nice rolling fairways with little or no repair grounds, and also nice well kept greens. Only encountered a few bunkers with some water in them which is why I did no rate the conditions as 5 star. The rough in this course is kind of the long side, probably 1.5+ inches in some areas.
The starter and other course staff was very friendly and kind. We did not have any rangers on the course, which would have been good because some groups took 5+ hours to play without holding anybody up.
Restaurant was pleasant, but unfortunately not staff for a tournament, too few waiters and I was there 1 hour and never was offered anything, they were that busy. Finally when we flagged him down, we were told the kitchen was backed up anyways, so, we left dissappointed. It's too bad the restaurant can damage the golf experience, and its not like they didn't expect our small group.
Overall still a solid option, but I just hope the remove water from bunkers and staff the restaurant better.
Not lush, but nice course
First, I had high expectations reading reviews stating this course was lush green. It has areas of green, but definitely not lush. And the driving range was something out of Tin Cup.
With that being said, greens were in fantastic shape and rolled great. Tee boxes were nice and green and fairways were mostly good; with summer heat, to be expected. Lastly, drink cart came out frequently and the staff was great.
Facilities were nice, but low marks for the restaurant as we were constantly ignored by the wait staff for local members. And when a member of the wait staff finally came by, he said he couldn't take our order because we weren't in his section. We ended up leaving and eating elsewhere.
If you live in the area, probably worth playing, but not worth a long drive.
Charming
As a longtime Phoenix resident, this course was a bucket list course. The green are recovering from airation and sanding, but still rolled well. The course was in good shape. The bunkers are hard, usual for this time of the year. Play was fast and staff in the golf shop were really friendly. The other members sand golfers were also incredibly nice. One of the most enjoyable days of golf I have had with strangers.
Great bang for the buck!
Moon Valley CC for $29? What a deal. Range balls, cart included. Friendly pro shop staff, great bag room staff. Greens were in tremendous shape. Now if they would only trim that tree limb on 18 that extends into the fairway. It's a killer for those of us who play fades.
Thank you for playing Moon Valley. We hope you will be back soon.
Great experience. Traps and greens were well maintained.
First class. HIGHLY recommended. Challenging greens.
Playing Moon Valley Golf Club
Golf course had just been maintenanced and the greens were sandy but functional. I like playing courses with trees and this is a great example of a non traditional arizona golf course.
Thank you for playing. The greens are really good now. Hopefully you will be back soon.
Massive trees lots of shade
This is a great course to play on a hot day with the huge trees on the course supplying shade.
Moon Valley
All in all it was a good experience. Staff very helpful and friendly. Course had some ragged areas, but for the most part was in good condition.
Good track
The layout was good - the traps were thin on sand and the greens were hard to read. The greens were also very fast. The staff was excellent and very friendly.
Every hole is different
A tract that after you play it you can talk about and remember individual holes. Great greens, excellent driving range. A very fair course for both male and female golfers.
Best Greens in Arizona!
The course is very well manicured with maturity you don't find in the desert. The scenery and amenities are first class. The greens are the most playable I have encountered in Arizona. The tree lined fairways can be challenging if you find yourself in them. I nice change from the typical desert courses we have so many of here in the valley!
Not the glory days..
We decided to play here based on a recommendation from someone staying at a neighboring golf resort. This course was home to LPGA events back in it's glory days. It is starting to "fray at the edges," literally. The fairways and greens were decent, but the rough was often-times just a dirt wasteland. No growth of any kind. There were also some bunkers with vegetation growing up the sides, and some bunkers where the grass edging around them had cracked and chunks of sod were slowing falling in. Some of the bunkers were very sparse on sand as well. It was not worth the $90 we paid. It was worth about $50. Staff was friendly, and the clubhouse and pro shop were very nice. Pace of play was great, but that was in part because not many people were playing.
Very Nice Golf Experience
Course was in very good shape. A few brown GUR spots, but not anywhere that really mattered. Fairways were in really good shape, and greens fast and predictable, although we would have liked them a bit more receptive. Rough was forgiving. The pace was good - finished in 4 hours 20 minutes. Every one of the staff we met were friendly. No time for food after, unfortunately. We'd like to return next time we're here.
Disappointed
Fairways and greens in good shape. Roughs were poorly taken care of. Mostly dirt. Poor service from beverage cart. Saw her on first tee and not again until 8th green. Then saw her before we teed off 10 and on 12 she went to group behind us and then went in another direction. She then drove right by us on 18. Couldnt wait to leave.
Great playing area. fair but challenging
Greens are quick. Sometimes difficult to read, but a lot of fun. Staff cannot do enough for you and are very courteous
Wonderful course
One of the nicer course that we have played in the Phoenix-Scottsdale of late. Greens and fairways were in excellent shape. The ponds also had very clear water (and that allowed me to find two balls that I hit in…). We look forward to playing this course again asap.
Nice day, very slow snack shack
This was my first time playing at Moon Valley, I booked the round on Golfnow.com. We arrived and checked in and we were treated very well by the pro shop staff and the guys outside cleaning up the carts, as they were all very helpful. We were paired up with a couple who also had never played here either. The greens were in perfect shape, very undulating and rolled true. The fairways were decent, the rough was a bit patchy but playable for the most part. We made the turn and I dropped off my playing partner to go to the ladies room while I went over to the snack shack to pick up a hot dog and head over to the 10th tee box. They didn't have any ready but the young lady said she could have one ready quickly so I told her to go ahead. A few other guys showed up to order drinks so I stepped aside to wait for my hot dog. This was taking a little while so I asked when it would be ready because I needed to get to the 10th tee. It took over 10 minutes to get it with all the socializing going on. When I walked out and picked up my playing partner she thought I had disappeared. The people we were paired up with went ahead because they thought I had abandoned them. Bottom line is nice staff, but could be better managed to keep things moving along. The course was fine, nothing special or really memorable.
I think Mooon Valley is a "DIAMOND IN THE ROUGH"
First time I played the course and I have lived and played here in the Valley for 25 years. No doubt we will be back ... Treated like I was a member AND the course is Country Club shape.
Good course with some history
We had a good round on a beautiful day. The greens and fairways were in good shape. The areas off the fairways need some TLC, but I guess we should not be there in the first place. The staff treated us well, but the members seemed less than overjoyed that we were on their course.
Hey Thanks for your comment, we needed a review to check on conditions and we got it.
Thank you for the kind words. We are glad you enjoyed your time here. Please come back and visit us again soon.
