Challenging and scenic

The course is challenging and scenic, particularly the back nine! Pace of play was good on the front but really slowed down on the back. Unfortunately, a thunderstorm moved in and we had to abandon the course on the 14th hole (farthest from the starting hole). We were soaked by the time we meandered our way back to the clubhouse.
Course was mostly in good shape. It would have been nice to be told about the huge roped off area on #2. Hitting left to shorten the hole can get you in trouble and behind the barriers! GPS on carts was nice but our cart kept telling us we were in a restricted area when we were not. It was annoying that the carts only allowed you to go so fast in some areas especially when we were trying to beat the storm back!

Money Better Spent Elsewhere

The staff wasn’t that polite. The driving range is nothing but a cage or three people can hit two net about 10 yards in front of you. There are some holes that you better be a PGA professional to hit the fairway. The putting green was only three little holes so you get four people on it and you’re crowded.

Gorgeous course

It was a beautiful course, well maintained and challenging. Staff was great. Only complaint is that they should monitor the pace of play. It took our twosome 4 hours to play 18. We waited on every hole because nobody asked the slow group ( also a twosome) to pick up the pace.

Target golf. Much improved.

A few years ago the course conditions had deteriorated to the point that I no longer looked for tee times here. Gave it another chance, out of desperation, and I'm happy to report that they have really brought it back to good shape. Not perfect but better than average at this price point. If you haven't played Phantom Horse, it is well worth a go. It's a shorter golf course demanding accuracy and strategy. Nice views. If you forget your driver at home, you might not miss it.

Poor Value for the Money

Tee Boxes were in very poor shape. In some instances even fairways were in bad shape. Greens were down to dirt in some areas of the putting service. Just off the fairways (not in the desert) the grounds were in very bad shape with virtually no grass (playing off of dirt). Value for the money spent was the worst we had in 4 rounds in the Scottsdale/Phoenix area.

Great Course, but no driving range to warm up on. They do have a hitting net, but with only three spots, its a little inadequate for a course this nice. The course is definitely worth doing.

Nice short course, but SLOW

The course is pretty short relative to many others. If if you can't shape your driver shots, you will find yourself knocking irons, hybrids and woods around much of the course.

On this specific day, the pace was the worst I have experienced in AZ. By the 6th hole we were 3 groups backed up on the tee and this never improved. Painfully slow.

There is no driving range, just a net. No complimentary water bottles, but water fill stations on the course.

A unique course layout

You need course knowledge to avoid the hazards. A few hidden fairways and water hazards off the tee. You need to know what the fairways do past your visual experience. The course is in great shape. Tricky pins possible. I reccomend a course map if you'd like to break 80. Otherwise, swing away. Enjoy your round. Don't keep score. Get drunk and play loud music like you're the only golfer on course. That's the normal now after Phoenix Open trains them young boys to come get wild.

No food or drinks at turn?

I've never heard of a golf course not having food or drinks at the turn, even when the layout doesn't bring you back by the clubhouse. It wouldn't take much to have a little shack selling basic food and drinks between holes 8-11. Drink cart only had hot dogs, no sandwiches. Also pace of play was terrible and marshal didn't seem to do much about one particularly slow group several holes ahead of us. Lastly, hole 2 had a large area fenced off and under construction but in a blind area when teeing off. If there was any signage, I didn't see it. Lastly, a convention was going on at the same time and the line up to grab a coffee before teeing off was ridiculous.
